Deleting Facebook Again

Going Viral Is Not for Me
Recently, my Facebook account has been hitting the algorithm just right, and some of my videos are getting 10,000 views each, and one of them actually hit 30,000. And with all that, I’ve decided to delete my Facebook account.
The reason is that I’m just a normal monk, and this type of influence is beyond my caliber and beyond what we call pāramī. Some treat it as their full-time job, and I don’t want to have this as my job.
I’m not on Instagram, I’m not on TikTok, and the easiest thing to do is to delete my Facebook account. Deactivation is a trap, and this is not the first time I’ve deleted my Facebook account!
Where You Can Still Find Me
I will, however, continue to make videos on my YouTube channel and also write articles on my American Monk website. The subscriber base is much smaller, and it’s easier to deal with. I like smaller groups with the classical Theravāda vibe rather than the Western secular stuff. That’s why I created classicaltheravada.org as a discussion group. We are a small group, and we like it that way.
Better Videos, Better Dhamma
I’ve been learning how to make better videos, and better videos help keep people stay engaged. I understand how it works a lot better now. And it’s very satisfying to improve the quality of my creations, especially the creations that help share the Dhamma.
Besides recording smaller clips and gluing them together, writing a script made things easier and improved the quality as well.
Kind Teleprompter
To do this without paying for expensive teleprompter apps, I decided to make my own, which is called the Kind Teleprompter. I’ve made some videos with it already, and I’m using this app to speak with you right now. It’s voice-activated, and it follows me even when I drift a little bit from the script.
It’s free to use, and it’s without ads or subscriptions, just like all of my other projects. I hope that you can use it to make Dhamma videos, and you can find a link on americanmonk.org .
Summary Poem
The algorithm pushed, the numbers grew, Ten thousand views, then thirty too. But fame’s a weight no monk should bear, A fleeting prize, a worldly snare.
Delete the feed, step off the stage, A smaller crowd suits this monk’s age. On YouTube still, and written word, The classical Dhamma will be heard.
A teleprompter, free and kind, To help the voice keep up with mind. No ads, no cost, just Dhamma shared, For those who practice, those who cared.
Final Words
So maybe I’ll see you, maybe I won’t.
And may the Triple Gem bless you. Sādhu, sādhu, sādhu.
